Consistency is King

Sometimes HCL take a hit on (not) updating documentation. I get it.

Something that I discovered recently when looking for an updating a link from “help”. The URL referenced Domino 10. Obviously Domino 10 is no longer supported, neither is Domino 11.

I’ve discovered that if you just change the version number in the URL it will just update to a newer version of the help. Sounds logical and sensible but I wouldn’t necessarily have assumed it was the case and it seems to be.

I’ve gone through multiple examples and I can’t seem to find any that don’t work so I can only assume at this point that they all do.

I can’t even remember the original link I was looking at at this point but if we take this link as an example

https://help.hcl-software.com/domino/10.0.1/admin/admn_attachmentconsolidation_c.html

Replace “10.0.1” with “11.0.1” or “12.0.2”, “14.5.0” or even “14.5.1” and you’ll get the updated URL. (12.0.1 doesn’t actually work).

https://help.hcl-software.com/domino/12.0.2/admin/admn_attachmentconsolidation_c.html

https://help.hcl-software.com/domino/14.5.0/admin/admn_attachmentconsolidation_c.html

https://help.hcl-software.com/domino/14.5.1/admin/admn_attachmentconsolidation_c.html

Maybe I’m easily pleased but I love that that works.
